Tabletop glass can form the main surface on a supporting frame or act as a protective cover over an existing table. These applications require different support and edge details. A protective glass cover resting on an existing tabletop is different from a glass top spanning a frame or pedestal. State whether the glass is continuously supported, supported around a perimeter or resting on individual points. Show the unsupported span and overhang on the drawing. Thickness alone does not establish a table's load capacity; the furniture designer should confirm the complete glass-and-base assembly for its intended use.
For dining tables, coffee tables, side tables and office furniture, confirm exposed edges, corner radii and the expected handling conditions. For outdoor furniture, also identify any umbrella hole, mounting details and exposure requirements. Bases, adhesive bonding, fittings and installation are separate items unless included in the quotation.
Workshop processing includes cutting, edge grinding and polishing, corner treatment, drilling or waterjet work, washing and tempering. A polished flat edge, pencil edge and rounded plan-view corner produce different appearances and should be specified separately. Provide the desired profile rather than asking for a generic straight edge when a polished finish is required.
Confirm all dimensions and openings before heat treatment. Tempered glass cannot normally be trimmed or drilled afterwards; changes to a base or fixing layout may require a new panel. Mark the drawing revision to help keep repeated furniture batches consistent.
The factory has two tempering lines together with cutting, edging, drilling and waterjet capabilities. As a general planning reference, tempering throughput is approximately 20 tonnes per line per day and can reach about 27 tonnes under suitable loading conditions. This describes line throughput across the production mix, not dedicated tabletop output. Round or shaped panels, thick glass, edge polishing, drilling and mixed-size orders affect the number of finished tops produced. Confirm the batch schedule with the quotation.
Tabletop inspection covers finished dimensions, diagonals or diameter, shape accuracy, edge polishing, corner finish, hole positions and visible surface condition. Tempering inspection and any requested test documentation are agreed for the order. Tell us the destination and applicable furniture or glass requirements so the relevant documentation can be reviewed without assuming that every configuration has the same certification scope.
Discuss cork or foam separators, EPE surface protection and corner guards to keep glass faces and polished edges separated during shipment. Round and shaped panels may need a different crate layout from rectangular panels. Identify mixed sizes on the packing list and confirm labels, unloading access and protective materials before dispatch.
Send the shape and finished dimensions, thickness, quantity per size, glass colour, edge profile, corner radius, holes or cut-outs, base/support drawing, destination and required timing. Reference options range from 6 to 19 mm. The correct selection depends on dimensions, support spacing, overhang and intended use. Provide the base drawing; a photograph or glass thickness alone does not establish load performance.
Round, oval, square, rectangular and shaped panels can be discussed to drawings. State the finished dimensions and edge finish, and confirm production feasibility before ordering.
A corner radius changes the outline viewed from above. A rounded or pencil edge changes the cross-section along the glass perimeter. Specify both where required.
No routine drilling or cutting should be planned after tempering. Specify the hole diameter and position before production, including any umbrella or fixing requirement.
